Octo­ber 2025: 

The European Foundry Industry Sen­ti­ment Index (FISI) with a min­imal decline in Octo­ber 2025.

The European Foundry Industry Sen­ti­ment Index (FISI), pub­lished monthly by European Foundry Fed­er­a­tion, decreased by 0.4 point in Octo­ber 2025, reach­ing a level of  94.3 points.

It is import­ant that in the cast iron foundry, in Octo­ber 2025, the index increased by 0.1 points, reach­ing a value of 96.1 (com­pared to a value of 96.0 in Septem­ber 2025). Tak­ing into account the expect­a­tions for the next six months, slightly neg­at­ive moods are palp­able. The index decreased by 0.8 points, reach­ing 85.0.

In the European steel foundry in Octo­ber 2025, the FISI index recor­ded an increase of 1.0 point com­pared to the Septem­ber data, reach­ing 76.6. As in the cast iron industry, expect­a­tions for the next six months are neg­at­ive. The value of the expect­a­tions index reached 99.5, record­ing a decrease of 1.3 points com­pared to the data from Septem­ber 2025.

In Octo­ber 2025, the European non-fer­rous metal foundry recor­ded an increase in the index by 0.5 points, thus reach­ing the value of 132.6. As in the situ­ation of cast iron and cast steel, the expect­a­tion index for the next half of the year decreased by 1.7 points and amoun­ted to 147.9.

The Busi­ness Cli­mate Index (BCI), pub­lished by the European Com­mis­sion, reached ‑0,47 in Octo­ber 2025, com­pared to the pre­vi­ous read­ing of ‑0.73 in Septem­ber 2025.

The Euro­zone Man­u­fac­tur­ing PMI in Octo­ber 2025 reached a level of 50.0 which was an increase by 0.2 point from 49.8 in Septem­ber 2025.

 

The FISI – European Foundry Industry Sen­ti­ment Indic­ator – is the earli­est avail­able com­pos­ite indic­ator provid­ing inform­a­tion on the European foundry industry per­form­ance. It is pub­lished by EFF —  European Foundry Fed­er­a­tion every month and is based on sur­vey responses of the European foundry industry. The EFF mem­bers are asked to give their assess­ment of the cur­rent busi­ness situ­ation in the foundry sec­tor and their expect­a­tions for the next six months.

The BCI – Busi­ness Cli­mate Indic­ator – is an indic­ator pub­lished by the European Com­mis­sion. The BCI eval­u­ates devel­op­ment con­di­tions of the man­u­fac­tur­ing sec­tor in the euro area every month and uses five bal­ances of opin­ion from industry sur­vey: pro­duc­tion trends, order books, export order books, stocks and pro­duc­tion expectations.

Pur­chas­ing Man­agers’ Index (PMI) -  in the Euro area is an indic­ator of the eco­nomic health of the man­u­fac­tur­ing sec­tor. It is based on such indic­at­ors as: new orders, invent­ory levels, pro­duc­tion, sup­plier deliv­er­ies and the employ­ment environment.
