April 2025:
European Foundry Industry Sentiment Indicator (FISI) hits the first obstacle in April 2025
After three months of slow but consecutive increase, in April 2025 The European Foundry Industry Sentiment Indicator (FISI), conducted monthly by the European Foundry Federation, hits the first obstacle. Compared to the data from March 2025, the FISI decreased from 94.6 to 94.0.
While the current situation in both ferrous and non-ferrous foundry industry is slightly better than a month before, the negative expectations for the second half of 2025 contributed to achieving this level of indicator.
In Apil 2025, the Business Climate Indicator (BCI), an index published by European Commission was at the level of ‑0,67, with the level of — 0.73 in March 2025.
The Eurozone Manufacturing PMI rose to 49.4 in May 2025 from 49.0 in April, which was slightly above market expectations of 49.3, according to a preliminary estimate.
Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in the Euro area is an indicator of the economic health of the manufacturing sector. It is based on such indicators as: new orders, inventory levels, production, supplier deliveries and the employment environment.
Current year has created multiple challenges: geopolitical events, national elections, constant and urgent need for an industrial transformation. Each of these factors has an immediate reverberation in every branch of European industry. Hoping that the decrease of FISI Index in April 2025 was just a single speed bump, EFF is keeping a close eye on the current situation and the upcoming challenges to be faced by the European foundry industry.
The FISI – European Foundry Industry Sentiment Indicator – is the earliest available composite indicator providing information on the European foundry industry performance. It is published by CAEF the European Foundry Association every month and is based on survey responses of the European foundry industry. The CAEF members are asked to give their assessment of the current business situation in the foundry sector and their expectations for the next six months.
The BCI – Business Climate Indicator – is an indicator published by the European Commission. The BCI evaluates development conditions of the manufacturing sector in the euro area every month and uses five balances of opinion from industry survey: production trends, order books, export order books, stocks and production expectations.
